Machine-Customer Readiness

Your customers are starting to let AI agents do the buying. Will yours still find you?

Search and procurement are quietly shifting from people typing into Google to agents querying, comparing and ordering on their behalf. For a mid-sized supplier, that's either the fastest new channel you have — or the first one you disappear from.

15–20%of enterprise revenue is expected to come from "machine customers" by 2030

That's the forecast from Gartner analysts Don Scheibenreif and Mark Raskino in When Machines Become Customers — and it was written before the current wave of agentic AI took off. If anything, it's likely conservative now. Their core warning: suppliers without structured, machine-readable data and interfaces become invisible to automated buyers, no matter how good the product is.

Where this bites hardest

Many Hidden Champions sell into exactly the kind of buying process that's being automated first: repeat orders, spec-matching, RFQs from larger customers' procurement systems. If your quotes, specs and pricing only exist as PDFs and phone calls, an AI agent scanning the market for a qualified supplier may simply never surface you.
